In his latest project, HGEsch portraits the city partners of Cologne and Beijing and presents the photographs in the historical archive of Cologne, in which the city partnership certificate is kept.

In his large formated photographs, HGEsch lets Cologne and Beijing enter a dialogue. The new and modern China encounters the ‘old’ Cologne with the Cologne Cathedral, its churches and the old city, portrayed modernly and unseen along the ‘new’ Cologne, with its contemporary architecture, such as the KölnTriangle and the crane houses in the Rheinauhafen, which are already said to be the new and striking landmark of the city.

The observing and precise photographs of HGEsch attest his fascination for architecture and urban development and provide an unconventional view on the two very contrasting cities.
